Monday, May 26, 2025
9:00 AM
The 135th consecutive Memorial Day Observance in Rome will be held on Monday May 26, 2025, at the Rome Community Center beginning at 9 AM.
The speaker for the program will be Spec/5 Martin Meyer, retired from the U.S. Army. Meyer joined the Army September 19, 1968. After 8 weeks basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, he spent 40 weeks of Avionics Mechanics Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Meyer did 2 tours of combat in Vietnam for a total of over 18 months.
Kids entering the decorated bike contest must be at the Community Center by 8:30 AM for judging. Prizes will be awarded by the Memorial Day Committee.
Following the program, the Jefferson Middle School Band will furnish the music for the march to the bridge for the laying of the wreath in the Bark River to honor those lost at sea. They will continue to the Hoffman Cemetery where the American Legion Post #513 will conduct the service to honor all veterans. Kurt Stanich will lead the prayers at the bridge and the cemetery.
The Historical Society will have lunch available for purchase. Many desserts, including pie, along with barbecues, hot dogs and chili dogs will be available until 1 PM.
The Town of Rome-Sullivan Historical society will have open house at the Rome School Museum and the former E.U.B. church from 10 AM until 1 PM. This year we are highlighting our military display in the museum and the extensive display of wedding dresses and other wedding artifacts in the church.
All roads lead to Rome for this grand tradition of the Town of Sullivan Memorial Day Observance in Rome.

Please let Kari know if you need a receipt for tax purposes.
We greatly appreciate all the donations that we have received so far towards the roof.
We are under contract to get the roof repaired. The total cost of repair is $46,000. The Town Board has agreed to pay for 1/2 of the repairs. The Historical Society needs to pay for the remaining $23,000. We have currently raised $17,297 towards this goal. We are in the homestretch and need your help raising the last $6,000.
